SOUHWELL WORKHOUSE BICENTENARY BANNER

I was delighted to be commissioned this year by the National Trust’s Southwell Workhouse to design and make a very large community banner to celebrate its 200th birthday! One a warm July day, over 150 visited the Workhouse and helped me make this wonderfully coloured in fabric banner. I made a line drawing on paper and then had it digitally printed onto 100% cotton and it was decorated using some heavy weight fabric pens to make it glow with colour. The banner was to celebrate all the life and stories that have passed through the building in all those years, and to help see the building and interact with it in an entirely new way. This was my second large banner made recently - the first being a large Newark Town Hall banner as part of my residency at the National Civil War Centre from 2023/24.
