In 2021 I applied to Sky’s Landscape Artist of the Year competition and I got through to the Wildcard competition! I didn’t win it but it was such a great experience to meet so many other artists and meet the judges too. I love Joan Bakewell for her forthrightness and she was a total star, talking to every single artist taking part in both competitions. All the judges were interesting to talk to, even briefly and Stephen Mangan was very sweet to pose with me for a photo! It was great to see how it all worked behind the scenes and gave me a taste of the stress the pod winners must feel when they take part. The show says that you have four hours, but it is very chopped into with filming and the decision is taken before that deadline so that they can get the judging and filming sorted. I definitely would apply again…. and I encourage you too too! A great experience all round and wonderful to see my art in a totally different arena. So watch this space for me potentially entering again….
